QA Integration & Automation Engineer · Dublin

Björn RomanKohlberger

Engineer, researcher, game maker, musician and actor.

I turn complex, messy systems into ones that run fast and stay right. Right now I’m researching how to train AI on hardware that shouldn’t be able to, shipping my own games, and stepping on stage.

About me

I care about efficiency and quality in the same build. That is how products actually get better.

I grew up typing BASIC from magazines on a C64 and building PCs from flea-market parts. Mostly self-taught, I learn by doing and by writing things down. I drop into messy systems, find the weak link, automate it, and document it so it stays fixed.

Outside engineering I make music, build games and train as an actor.

Along the way

  • Worked my way up at Blizzard from customer support to QA technical lead, then software engineer in test
  • Found the defect that kept the Warcraft III: Reforged map editor from shipping
  • Built World of Warcraft character automation the WoW team adopted
  • Built a QA department from zero for a Virtual Reality start-up
  • Helped Google GameSnacks grow its catalog by about 95%
  • Researched and designed SCT, filed a patent application, and ran a first 70B-class training step on a Steam Deck
  • Shipped my own game, Mills Classic, through the same GameSnacks pipeline I used to work on
  • Released an album as Dexter Newton and still DJ
  • Two years of acting school and time on film and TV sets

Experience

Seventeen years in games and software. From the support desk to head of QA, and now my own research.

  1. 2026 to now

    Independent researcher

    EctoSpace, Dublin

    • Researched and designed Spectral Compact Training (SCT). Patent application filed, paper on arXiv.
    • Built EctoLedger in Rust: a tamper-evident audit trail and sandbox for AI agents.
    • Shipped Mills Classic, live on Google GameSnacks since May 2026.
  2. 2024 to 2025

    QA Integration Engineer

Google GameSnacks, via Harvey Nash, Dublin

    • Owned onboarding and debugging for external HTML5 studios: SDK and API integration, launch failures, certification bugs.
    • My work helped the catalog grow by about 95%. New-game approvals went up 195%.
    • Automated game intake and built Gemini-based tools to analyse QA results.
    • Audited the outsourced QA vendor. My findings led to the vendor being replaced.
  3. 2021 to 2024

    Head of Quality Assurance

Virtualis Veritas, my own company. Client: a Virtual Reality start-up

    • Built QA from zero: Jira, Confluence and TestRail, plus two QA engineers I hired and coached.
    • Extended Bellatrix into a C#/.NET framework for the web front end, the back end and the Unity VR player.
    • Regression every three hours on self-hosted GitHub Actions, with uptime monitoring and Slack alerts.
  4. 2019 to 2021

    Software Development Engineer in Test

    Blizzard Entertainment, Austin, Texas

    • Automated regression for the Blizzard support website in Selenium C#.
    • Built World of Warcraft character-creation automation that the WoW team adopted.
    • Designed a screen-reader accessibility test that turns reader audio into text and checks it against the page.

Music

Music has always been hardwired into me. I grew up on the electronic music of the 1980s and 1990s. These days the studio gets less of my time, but music is never far away.
